The Role of Regional Volunteers

The Role of Regional Volunteers

This week we want to highlight the critical role played by Tumaini volunteers in Kenya. I would like you to meet Teacher Paul, one of our most dependable volunteers since 2014. Early in our child sponsorship program, we recognized the role played by the leaders in the villages and towns where we serve throughout Kenya. Given the expansive area across Kenya that we serve, our staff, (however, amazing and they are!) cannot visit all the sponsored on a weekly basis.

So, it is these volunteers, often teachers, pastors and peasant farmers who fill a critical need in our service to these children. Currently, we have 30 of these men and women who come from the same communities as the children who love the work of Tumaini and have seen how lives have been transformed over the years. Paul, who is a Mathematics and Creative Arts teacher by profession, has been one of our most effective regional volunteers for a decade now, currently serving 30 children and their families.

Typically, these volunteers take and bring reports back through our field office and take care of any needs that are identified. We are grateful for these men and women who take their precious time to serve alongside our field staff to ensure that our sponsored children are well taken care of. This is what Paul had to say about his volunteer experiences: “Over the years I have worked with Tumaini, I have seen children that come from very poor backgrounds getting sponsorship and growing to become people who change their families’ stories for the better.”
