Sponsor a Child

Change a life
When you sponsor a child through Tumaini International, you change a life.

For only $38 a month, you ensure a child can live with their parents, extended family or caring neighbors and receive medical care, food security, clothing, and a complete education through high school.

About Sponsorship

As a Child Sponsor, you provide life-changing assistance to a vulnerable child who has lost one or both parents to AIDS or is at risk for extreme poverty.  Your tax-deductible donation is used to help provide the basic needs of your sponsored child, along with a week long summer camp and other fun activities.

We do not build orphanages. We believe that all children should be loved, nurtured, and protected in a family environment, not an institution.  Our model is to place children in the loving care of responsible relatives or neighbors. We partner with these guardians to assist them in meeting the family's basic needs.  The children are then able to grow up in a loving home and retain the values of family and community.

All children in the Tumaini program receive our services until they complete high school.

Featured Children

Hope Fund

Did you know that once a Tumaini child is sponsored that child is not dropped before they complete their program, even if their sponsor stops making payments?  We are committed to providing each child with the same care and essential services.

Each month, approximately 50 children lose their sponsors. These children still need essential services and care. These funding lapses translate to about $1,750, creating a deficit in our programs. This money must then be redirected from our Hope Fund every month.

Instead of giving $38 monthly to a specific child, you can give to whomever needs the resources the most at the time. If you want to give but are unsure committing to a Child Sponsorship is right for you, then we invite you to please support our Hope Fund and ensure ongoing support for every child under our support.

Alumni Fund

Scholarships for Higher Education & Small Business Start-Ups

Every year, an average of 60 students graduate and age out of the Tumaini program. Due to the Kenyan educational system, only about a third of these high school graduates score well enough to join a four-year degree program. Another third perform well enough to pursue a trade if funds are available. The remaining third must complete vocational training or look for other jobs which are scarce.

We believe that completing 12th grade should not be the end of their educational and career dreams.

In a country with unemployment as high as 40%, Tumaini believes in providing hope for every individual giving them the tools necessary for their success.

It costs an average of $1800 per year to support a student who joins a four-year program. It costs as little as $500 to start a CBO. Donating to the Alumni Fund gives our team in Kenya the flexibility to evaluate each alumnus and provide the relevant support based on their academic performance and business interest. For those who qualify or opt for CBOs, we will pair them with successful businesses to mentor them along the way.

You can make financial independence possible.
