Meet Maryann

Meet Maryann

Maryann and her two siblings were being raised by her single mother when she was introduced to Tumaini.  Thankfully, Maryann was sponsored by Dan during elementary school. She was selected to join Tumaini International Girls High School in 2015 because of her strong academic performance. There, Maryann was mentored academically, socially, and spiritually.

“Our teachers were very much supportive, and this even made us forget about our family backgrounds and focus on our studies,” recalls Maryann.

Maryann performed well on her exit exam and went on to attend Chuka University where she earned a Bachelor of Education Science degree.  During this time, Maryann’s mother passed away.

Maryann recently reflect on that time sharing, “When my mother passed away while I was in college, it was very painful.  I had lost hope but still Tumaini supported me.”

After college, Maryann returned to Tumaini International Girls High School’s where she joined the teaching staff as a Biology/Chemistry teacher.

It is stories like Maryann’s that demonstrate how Tumaini brings hope by ending the cycle of poverty.  Through one child sponsorship the next generation of students are educated and supported by someone who has walked in their shoes.

Thank you to all child sponsors who make stories like this possible. There is still more work to be done. We currently have children waiting for their chance to attend school and have the peace that comes with knowing their basic needs will be met.  You can help provide that hope today.

Thank you for your partnership as we continue to offer hope to vulnerable children and their communities through child sponsorship and education.
