MEET FRANCIS, A GRATEFUL ALUMNI SCHOLAR

MEET FRANCIS, A GRATEFUL ALUMNI SCHOLAR

“I once felt like I was losing everything even after going through the program up to the 12th grade. I thank God that Tumaini came through again to fund for my college education through the Tumaini Alumni scholarship program,” explained Francis, a 22-year-old pursuing a diploma course in Catering and Hospitality.

Francis comes from a family of 5. His mother passed on when he was in primary school and his father is a drug addict who does not support the family in any way. Francis and his siblings depend on their aged grandmother who is also needy and jobless. Tumaini sponsored Francis when he was in grade 10, his siblings were also sponsored. After finishing grade 12 Mwendwa wanted to pursue advanced studies. This is what he had to say, “Being the first born in a family of five, I was determined to focus on education so that I can take care of my siblings in the future. After the 12th grade, and after aging out of the sponsorship program, my grandmother could not raise any money to support my college education. Through the alumni scholarship funds, I have been able to pay my college school fees …and I have not faced challenges. I have witnessed many students in the same school I am attending been denied … because of fee balances. I thank God that I have not faced such challenges the entire time have been in college. I am grateful to our CEO Dr. Stanley Mutunga and family for coming through the lives of vulnerable children. I also thank all the donors for all they do to help the needy in society.”

Currently Tumaini supports 140 students attending vocational, professional, and four-degree programs.  Each year, we are only able to offer limited scholarships based on available alumni scholarship funds.  And now, with the 12th grade class that just completed taking their national exit exams, we anticipate the number of eligible students to grow by approximately 115 in 2024.  We are grateful to those sponsors who can continue supporting fully their children in colleges.  However, we are fully aware that not everyone can afford the thousands of dollars needed to fund college education.

That is why I am writing to you today.  As you plan your end of year giving, would you prayerfully consider a designated donation for alumni scholarship. Donations may be made online: https://tumaini.givingfuel.com/alumni-fund or by mail via designated check. Any amount will be appreciated, however, here are some suggested amounts for you to consider:

$3,000 will fund a university student for one year.

$ 2,000 will fund a professional career student (e.g., Nursing) for one year.
