Higher Education Scholarships & Small Business Start-Ups
Tumaini International is excited to announce the formation of our new Alumni Fund which will provide scholarships and business opportunities for our graduates!
Every year there is an average of 60 students graduating and aging out of the Tumaini program who need a hand-up like Douglas. We believe that completing 12th grade should not be the end of their educational and career dreams.
Due to the Kenyan educational system, only about a third of these high school graduates score well enough to join four-year degree program. Another third perform well enough to pursue a trade similar to Douglas if funds are available. The remaining one third has to settle for vocational training or look for other jobs which are scarce.
In a country with unemployment as high as 40%, we want to provide economic opportunities for all graduates no matter their academic scores. No matter what path our children choose to pursue--higher educational, trade programs, or a small business--Tumaini believes in providing hope for every individual giving them the tools necessary for their success.
One-time or recurring monthly gifts of any amount will go a long way to launch this fund. We are hoping to raise $20,000 by the end of 2017 to make a significant impact on the lives of many graduates. It costs an average of $1800 annually to support a needy student who joins the three or four-year programs. It costs as little as $500-- $1000 to start a CBO. We are truly thankful to you for the many ways you have brought hope and changed lives in Kenya thus far, and we are looking forward to seeing what lies ahead for our Alumni and their dreams.
This Alumni Fund gives our team in Kenya the flexibility to evaluate each alumnus and provide the relevant support based on their academic performance and business interest. For those who qualify or opt for CBOs, we will pair them with successful businesses to mentor them along the way.
