Sustainability and Future Plans: One of the pitfalls for most non-profit organizations is total dependence on foreign donations. Such a trend not only creates unhealthy dependence but it is dangerous in that it does not anticipate economic recession in the donor countries, such as we are experiencing presently.
There is one possible way that Tumaini can address this monumental challenge in a creative and long-term way. Education is the one thing that Kenyan families would literally sell their land to ensure that their children go to school. Nothing else is more valued than education.
We want to build two good Tumaini High Schools—one for girls and one for boys. This need comes from seeing some of the schools that our kids are forced to attend—either because of their grade level or vicinity. Some of these schools are very poorly run, and yet we must pay exorbitant sums to keep students there because some education is better than none. Instead, why not build our own schools that will provide quality education and also provide moral guidelines for these future Kenyan leaders? These private schools will not only be for Tumaini kids but will be opened to other Kenyans. What an opportunity for ministry, and an opportunity to not only provide a quality education but godly training to these young minds that will potentially change a nation, a continent!
