Micro-Finance Projects
Experts tell us that child sponsorship is a good first step in development. However, to fight the source of societal poverty, we must address the socio-economic issues in a holistic sense. To that end, Tumaini has started to identify the poorest of the poor villages and offer micro-financing assistance, issuing small loans to start up local business endeavors. Our basic approach to micro-enterprise is Assets Based Community Development (ABCD). Tumaini will only partner with groups or communities that already work together and have identified a viable way to address their economic needs. We ask the question, “What works here and how best can we work with you to realize your goals?” We come in as Christian partners and empower them to address their own needs.
We are in the beginning stages and so far, we have started two pilot projects with a good measure of success. The first two micro-finance projects cost us $5000 each. However, going forward, we seek to raise at least $7,500 per project to also cover associated costs and ensure that each project is self-sustaining.
If your group/church or individuals are interested in partnering with Tumaini on a micro-finance project, please contact us and we will work out the details of the partnership.
